Spain 2022 World Cup Guide | All you need know

2010 FIFA World Champions Spain will have a huge litmus test to face in the upcoming World Cup as they are drawn with Germany, Costa Rica, and Japan. With the World Cup just around the corner, the tournament won’t be an easy ride for the former champions as they are drawn into the group of death.

Possessing the firepower of some of the best players in the world, Spain would still fancy a run-in into the tournament, and if they go all the way to win the tournament it should not be a surprise.

Qualification campaign for Spain

Spain almost had a perfect qualification campaign as they dropped points in only two matches, a defeat to Sweden and a home draw against Greece. The La Roja had conceded just five goals in the European qualifiers and saw off the challenge from Sweden, Greece Georgia, and Kosovo to secure direct qualification to the World Cup.

World Cup Group Details

Spain won’t have an easy run to the Round of 16 as they face Costa Rica in the opening game on Wednesday (November 23). The North American side will have fond memories from their 2014 camping when they edged out both England and Italy to qualify for the knockouts, so Spain will be wary of the North American side.

Spain’s second game will be a huge blockbuster for the fans as they then lock horns against Germany in a repeat of the 2008 Euro final. Spain and Germany will meet on Sunday (November 27) at the Al Bayt Stadium in Al Khor. Spain’s final group game will see them travel to Al Rayyan where they face Japan on Thursday (December 1).
