Scott Mctominay could feature against Watford, says Ole Gunnar Solskjaer
Manchester United manager ole Gunnar Solskjaer has hinted that midfielder Scott Mctominay could make his return from injury during Sunday’s clash with Watford in the Premier League.
Scott has been one of the leading contenders to be the club’s player of the season in the first half of the campaign, Mctominay hasn’t been a part of the United XI since Boxing Day because of a knee injury.
The Scotland international resumed training as a late arrival at the recent winter camp in Marbella and is very close to making a return.
Mctominay was given a Friday off by Ole, with the level of his involvement at Old Trafford on Sunday to be determined by how he fares in a final session on Saturday.
Solskjaer in his pre-match conference said, “I think he might be in the squad. Scott had a rest day today, so let’s see how he is tomorrow.”
Should he feature tomorrow, Scott’s absence will have lasted less than two months, with his recovery process completed much faster than initially expected.
Solskjaer commented on his recovery saying, “I’m not surprised because that’s the type he is. He’s a physical specimen, he’s a leader. He never shirks a tackle and he brings everyone with him."
"He can sit with Nemanja and Fred or he could be one of the runners in midfield. Talking about that here today, we don’t really make enough runs past the striker. Scott used to be a striker so he’s used to being in the box. ”
Mason Greenwood is also in the contention to start if he has sufficiently recovered from the illness that forced him to miss the Europa League draw trip to Belgium this week. Loanee, Odion Ighalo also has a chance of featuring against his former club.
The manager also confirmed that both Paul Pogba and Marcus Rashford will remain sidelined with ankle and back problems respectively.
