Manchester United want La Liga forward Maxi Gomez

Premier League giants Manchester United have been watching Valencia striker Maxi Gomez if reports in England are to be believed. 

The Red Devils reportedly had scouts at the Mestalla at the weekend to watch the Uruguayan international in action. The reports back are bound to have been positive with the 23-year-old inspiring los Ches to a 2-0 win against mighty Barcelona. 

The former Celta striker scored one and assisted another to inflict a damaging loss on Barcelona who have now gone three points behind their rivals Real Madrid in the title race. 

It is evident that Manchester United are in a desperate need for reinforcements to their squad as they are enduring their worst season in 30 years. 

Although, they are fifth in the table, they are 36 points behind the league leaders Liverpool. The point gap between the two rivals is actually more than the total points that the Red Devils have posted so far.

Manchester United did bolster their defence in the summer but the midfield and the attack remains a big concern for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. 

The club failed to replace Romelu Lukaku when he left for Internazionale, and now Marcus Rashford could be out for eight weeks with a back injury. 

The Englishman's absence is sure to affect Manchester United's fortunes this season.

Gomez could prove to be a brilliant addition to Old Trafford but a move is not likely to happen before summer. The Uruguayan is bound to cost a fortune.

Valencia signed the Uruguay international from Celta Vigo for £12.5million in the summer with Santi Mina and Jorge Saenz also part of the deal going the other way.

When Gomez joined los Ches, the club inserted a £120m release clause in his contract. However, it is unlikely that Manchester United would need to spend that much for the Uruguayan's signature. 

Gomez has scored 10 goals in 25 games in all competitions for Valencia this season. The numbers might not look too impressive but Gomez brings a lot to the team with his strong physical presence up front and that is what Solskjaer's side lack.
